All that the things that water can do

Floods that hit Prague in the middle of August 2002 damaged the Archa Theatre as well. The subterranean water and water from the sewerage system flooded both the main hall and the small hall, the bar and the lower foyer up to app. 4-5 meters.

Photographs of the flooded Archa Theatre on August 14th and 15th.
More photographs - 1, 2 - Archa after the flood, rescue work, etc.

Thanks to the rapid response of the theatre's staff and other volunteers, it was possible to save the majority of the theatre's most expensive technical equipment - everything that was not too difficult to remove: lights, sound equipment, speakers, computers, etc. The water however destroyed or damaged most of the built-in theatre equipment located on the lower level ground floor: the elevated floor table, the moving walls system, the movable stage in the small hall, the operational system of the movable ceiling and the built-in parts of the sound and light systems. A portion of the theatrical effects were also destroyed (decorations, costumes, stage props, etc.), as well as the ventilation system, electrical systems, furniture, theatre bar and café equipment, acoustic installation, flooring, etc...

Repairs to the theatre will be very difficult and will require several months. Archa Theatre will re-open - at the earliest - at the end of this season. But don't hang your heads, each month we are preparing something special for our loyal followers.
