Rodolfo is a refugee, as well as a great painter from Albania; Marcel a great French poet; and Schaunard a great Irish composer. They cannot take more than ten steps on the boulevards without being recognized by someone, or thirty steps - whatever the case - without meeting a creditor. This melancholy comedy - which, incidentally, is actually a melodrama - tells of their life, especially in relation to Mimi and Musette, two country belles lost in the maelstrom of the big city, and to more commonplace characters, such as the landlord and the immigration officers.

Somewhere in the tundra, in no-man's land, lived the worst rock'n'roll band in the world, an outfit with an audience and absolutely no commercial potential. And so they decide to sell their national sentiments and go to the United States where people swallow any kind of shit.
This film is the story of their journey over the ocean and through the continent, a story of steamy bars and honest folk in backyards of the Hamburger Nation. Ugly actors, good feelings. Yeah.
