On June 20, Czech jazz fans will have the possibility to see a star of world jazz music - Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko
Press Release from June 15, 2001

The lively jazz legend Tomasz Stanko is one of the most fertile and original musicians in Europe. According to Jaochim Berendt, he is the first artist from the "old continent", and definitely the first free jazz musician in Poland, who understands and has translated the free jazz of Coleman into his own language. For more than thirty years, he has held the title of the first trumpeter from Poland.

Stanko has had concerts all over the world, and has recorded and performed with some of the greatest American musicians, such as Don Cherry, Jan Garbarek, Cecil Taylor, Dino Saluzzi, Gary Peacock, Dave Holland, and Edie Gomez, just to name a few. He has composed music for documentary and feature films ("Rozloučení s Marií", "Matka Johana"), as well as incidental music. He has on his own account created innumerable recordings for prestigious record labels, especially for ECM in Monacco. Many noteworthy musicians have been witness to the role Stanko has played in the contemporary music world.
During his thirty-eight-year career, he has created a number of irreproducible original creations, which have taken the interest of the specific sound
of his pipe. The two latest famous projects of Stankos ("Litania" and the more recent "From the Green Hill") have made an unusual hype in the overseas press, and have been warmly received when they were performed in various cities all around the world. The program of this concert will be composed primarily of compositions from Stanko and Komeds from their last CD "From the Green Hill".
Master Stanko has invited the Simple Acoustic Trio to cooperate on this project with him. In spite of their age, they belong among the best acoustic jazz bands in Poland. This can be proven by the prizes they have received in Germany, Spain and France.
Master Stanko with his magic pipe and his "angry young men" play great music filled with "colourful sounds" and create an electrifying magnificent atmosphere.
