Marius von Mayenburg: Fireface
A new performance which premiered on September 28th of this year - and become an overnight success. Marius von Mayenburg is one of a new generation of writers in their thirties that have taken oven the world stage. He uses clean, clear language in describing the barrenness of our world and human relationships: the family as a battlefield, sibling incest, the ritual murder of parents, and self-destruction. Young people trying to define themselves against a world into which they were thrown against their will. Directed by: Jiří Pokorný. Prague premiere.

Hallucination or fiction? An optical illusion, or real-life delusion? Examined by: Jaroslav Dušek, Martin Zbrožek. Electrics by: Viktor Zborník. The presence of others (R. Uhlíř, Z. Konopásek) onstage entirely possible .

8 p.m.: Middle of the Moment / Uprostřed okamžiku
A screening of two films by Nicolas Humbert (Switzerland) and Werner Penzel (Germany) with the filmmakers in attendance. Step across the Border follows the travels of experimental musician Fred Frith and his gatherings with artistic colleagues (Iva Bittová, Pavel Fajt, John Zorn and others.) Middle of the Moment is a filmic poem about nomadic life, following the travels of the Tuaregs in the southern mountains of the Sahara, the French circus Cirque O, and American poet Robert Lax. Musician Pavel Fajt will play before each film. Part of the Galerie Rudolfinum's Three Windows - Hommage a Robert Lax project.

Searching for Firm Ground
The Stars of November a Dozen Years Later
For twelve years a film crew has been following the fate of four Czechs who became public figures during the dramatic events of November 1989: musician Michael Kocáb, dissident Jan Ruml, young demonstrator Kryštof Rimský and student leader Martin Mejstřík. This unique film project documents their searching, wandering, convictions and doubts as they make their way towards their various goals through the rough waters of a society in transformation. This film premiere will be attended by film's creators and subjects. Concept, script and direction by: Pavel Koutecký. In cooperation with the Association of Film & Sociology and Czech Television.

FAMU Festival 2001
An annual showcase of work by students of Prague's film academy, this year under the theme "Static Image". Four days of festival representing four periods in history: the start of the 20th century (The Time of Rises and Falls), the Fifties (The Time of Sweet Lives), the Seventies and Eighties (The Time of Norms - and Normalization), and the present (The Time of the Absent Present). Each day will bring a diffent atmosphere, a different music, a different ancillary program, and a different host: Ondřej Štindl.

Czechs in Times of Terror
A new evening forum played out by audience members/citizens. This is a first attempt at a new form of public discussion inspired by the Dutch TV program "People's Parliament". Based on parliamental principles the audience members will get to express its arguments. A live exchange of opinions, a battle of arguments, and a stand-off of differing views. In cooperation with Agora Central Europe, the Association of Film&Sociology.

Doctor Faustus Lights The Lights
In this dance performance Eva Weissmann transcribes Gertrude Stein's writing technique - from her most famous dramatic text - into movement and expression on stage. Music, dance, and song are accompanied by unusual stage actions such as painting, reading, and sculpting. Gertruda Stein chooses and changes, or rather choreographs her words. obdobně choreografuje předměty na scéně do nových kompozicí Similarly, Eva Weissmann re-arranges objects onstage to create new compositions of movement and sound. Eva Weissman's artists have completely different artistic backgrounds: musicians, singers, speakers, painters, sculptors, actors and of course, dancers. The unifying factor is their desire to question traditional genre divisions. (B, E, R)
