Introduction
Dance Zone means dance without frontiers: without frontiers between nations. Long before politicians could even grasp the concept, dance had already founded its very own empire, which vaults over all those foolish abstract lines in the ground for which so many men have bled and laid down their lives. Though ethereal, invisible, and unmarked on any maps, this empire is in fact palpable, for it is an empire of the body. In this land people speak in a language of movement and body signs, of mantras and images, and only those illiterate in this language reject its sovereignty. Dance breaks down the frontiers, in dance is the salvation of humanity…
Dance Zone means dance without frontiers: without frontiers between artistic genres. The contemporary dance zone is at the intersection between the possibilities of physical movement, visual and musical expression. The contemporary dancer moves from one of these possibilities into the next like a man who walks through walls. Contemporary dance is like a special philosophy of space, liberating our space from the junk of civilization, purifying it. In dance is the salvation of humanity…
Dance Zone means dance without frontiers: without frontiers between fields of energy. In one and the same space, the body energy of the dancer melts down again and mixes together with the energies of light and music or sound. One of our contributors describes light and sound as "the invisible dancers". The old alchemists, whom we of Jungian Central Europe and medieval Prague know so well, refined raw matter through the procedure of sublimation. Well dance is also a procedure of sublimation. Dance purifies the body, through dance the body sublimates and transcends itself. In dance is the salvation of humanity.
