Robo Tirpák / Helena Arenbergerová: Inside Of
Robert Tirpák and Helena Arenbergerová are above all beautiful, consummate dancers. (Arenbergerová has become the star of this issue of Dance Zone, for it is her on our cover, and you will meet her in several of the Czech pieces in this showcase of Central European dance.) They move with fluidity, grace and power, but above all with the unbelievable lightness that is a sign of the best qualities of contemporary dance. In this duet the male and female sides of the human body and soul work together like alchemy, without sentimentality of any kind, without any forced sale of gentleman-and-lady lyricism. Both dancers manage to avoid any forcefulness, remaining so "natural" that the level of their skill seems "unnatural". Thanks to this paradox of the hidden dance that is also so clearly visible, they rank with the very best. Even when invoking convulsive movements in their bodies, they are as natural as flora and fauna. They are modest in thought, costume and appearance, while managing to perform nothing less than a magnum opus. As the colour of the liquid contents of their glass vessels changes again and again in the alchemistic process that is their performance, they would seem to be nurturing the translucent, round, shimmering, living material… of the soul?
