Archa Theatre presents Finish theatrical group
Circus Maximus
Samuel Beckett: Krapp's Last Tape
May 15-17, 2000 in the Archa Theatre
Circus Maximus, formed in 1997, is a Finnish theatre organization formed by young Finnish theatre professionals. It was founded to maintain the highest possible quality of theatre arts among its members. Circus Maximus as an organization involves 25 artists from all areas of theatre: actors, directors, designers. All members of the group have international experiences such as from DAMU (Prague), La Fura dels Baus (Spain), Royal Shakespeare Company (Great Britain).
The theatre piece Krapp's Last Tape was written in 1959 and is included among those works written at the height of Samuel Beckett's career. Because it is raw and non-dramatic, it is very seldom played. Circus Maximus chose for this performance a very impressive visual art conception and stylized acting.
Krapp's Last Tape was first produced by Circus Maximus in Tampere. Highly praised by the Finnish critics and media, Krapp's Last Tape is a brilliant combination of light and sound. It has a "holy" feeling of an old black & white cinema with a touch of a modern theatre language.
