The cycle of documentary films, Praha mizerná (Wretched Prague), was created based on the theme of director Štěpán Kačírek, a student of Prague's FAMU, who was interested in the essays of historian, Josef Kroutvor, which were published in the Revolver Revue magazine. The documentary films capture the islets of the times past, which are disappearing before our eyes and which feature the suburbs of Prague. Without them, Prague will not be as it is today. These suburbs were created by the artist, or inspired him. These artists have expressively influenced today's Czech culture; they created new avant-garde directions in the period between the World Wars, and many times, they became a refuge of underground in the times of real socialism.
The cycle was created in co-production with Negativ s.r.o. and Czech Television, the creative group of Anna Becková.
The films were supported by the City of Prague and the State Fund of Czech Republic for the support and development of Czech cinematography.
The project is a part of Prague - European City of Culture 2000.
